Kemp House
28
This early example of Greek Revival style building was built c. 1860. Rooms were added at random over the next fifty years. Portions of the original wood sidewalk is still evident here.
Fred Kemp owned the Bola de Oro Saloon on the Second Street side of this block. The Bola de Oro was a respected club-like saloon and meeting place for numerous notable people. It was the site of the election for the incorporation of the City of San Juan Bautista in 1869. Fred and his wife, Mary Louise Deslandes Kemp were very active in the community, including with the Library Auxiliary.
Today the building remains a private residence.
