Lovett House

William E. Lovett built this early frame home c. 1852. Lovett, a relative of Dr. Thomas Flint, founded the San Francisco to Los Angeles stage line “Coast Line Stage” in July of 1866. Two years later, he sold the stage line to Benjamin Flint who was a partner in the Flint, Bixby & Co. with his cousin Llewellyn Bixby.

Flint had settled in San Juan in 1856 and purchased the 35,000 acre Rancho San Justo with his partner Colonel William Hollister. The partnership later split and Colonel Hollister selected the portion of the Rancho where the City of Hollister is now located.
